Meet the new members of our staff!
Shivaan Burke
Shivaan Burke is the administrative assistant at Kawartha Land Trust and has a background in environment and climate change science. She has worked in government and the private sector as a researcher and community organizer to identify and communicate best practices across many sectors. Shivaan obtained her Master of Science degree from Trent University in 2015, where her research used computer modelling technology to measure the carbon storage potential of peri-urban agroforestry systems under waste water irrigation regimes. Shivaan has a keen understanding of the critical connections that exist between scientific inquiry and policy development that supports balanced landuse practices.
Tineasha Brenot
Tineasha Brenot is the Land Conservation Specialist at Kawartha Land Trust. She possesses a B.Sc. in Biology from Trent University and a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems from Algonquin College. Tineasha was most recently the coordinator of the Coast Watchers citizen science program in her past position with the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation in addition to managing projects targeting plastic pollution and invasive species. Tineasha has worked in education and outreach positions with Ontario Parks and supported the conservation efforts for reptiles and amphibians as a Team Lead with Scales Nature Park. Throughout her journey to better understand the natural world, a significant amount of time has been spent crawling through wetlands to support her eagerness to learn.
Meet our Seasonal Team Members!
With the help of Canada Summer Jobs and Ontario Trillium Foundation, Kawartha Land Trust was able to hire three new additions to the team this summer!
Camille Cooper
Camille Cooper is the Land Management Technician at Kawartha Land Trust. She holds an HBSc in Environmental Science with a specialization in Conservation and Biodiversity, and an Advanced Diploma in Ecosystem Management from Fleming College. Camille has five years of experience working in the natural resource sector doing reforestation work in Northern Ontario. During the off season, Camille has worked for not-for-profit organizations including the Ecology Action Centre in Halifax, and has spent nine months travelling to India, Southeast Asia and Central America. She brings a strong work ethic and a passion for improving and protecting our natural landscapes.
Camille enjoys spending her free time hiking, camping, and exploring the beautiful Kawartha Lakes region.
Patricia Wilson
Patricia Wilson is our Community Conservation & Stewardship Technician at Kawartha Land Trust. She is an enthusiastic and detail-oriented team member who is passionate about land protection and sharing the importance of conservation with the public. Her area of expertise includes invasive species management, restoration & event coordination. You may recognize her name as she has worked with us over the past year in a variety of roles including stewardship technician and administrative support and prior to this she has been a dedicated KLT volunteer for 3 years. She holds a BSc. in Biology and a Specialization in Conservation Biology from Trent University as well as a diploma in Ecosystem Management from Fleming College.
Patricia has a keen sense of adventure and loves to explore new places! She also enjoys hiking, reading and torturing herself by doing obstacle course races such as Tough Mudder & Spartan Race.
Rachel Rutherford
Rachel is the Community Engagement and Marketing Assistant with Kawartha Land Trust. She is a recent graduate from Trent University where she received an BA in Media Studies. Previously Rachel worked for the Kawartha Chamber of Commerce and Tourism as the Tourism and Marketing Assistant and prior to that she worked for the Ministry of Community and Social Services with the Ontario Disability Support Program. Rachel brings a knowledge and passion for social media and marketing that will be an asset as we continue to grow and expand our impact.
Rachel was born and raised in Peterborough County and loves to explore the outdoors especially while hiking with her two dogs, paddling in the summertime and skiing in the winter!
