You Can Help
Donations from supporters like you, help to manage sensitive natural areas, acquire key properties and do everything that needs to be done to ensure the long-term conservation of land in the Kawarthas!
Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) creates nature reserves for future generations by acquiring ecologically important properties and/or interests in properties. We also enhance our stewardship of the land by engaging landowners in land care initiatives through our Partners in Conservation program.
There are a variety of ways you can help protect and preserve land in the Kawarthas forever.

Join Our Monthly Giving Program
Monthly giving is a very easy and effective way that you can help support Kawartha Land Trust (KLT). It allows you to break your gift up into monthly increments and receive one tax receipt at the end of the year.
The program is flexible and can be cancelled at any time. Monthly giving provides KLT with a dependable source of funding that helps us plan for the future. We can process your gift through direct withdrawal from your account or through monthly charges to your credit card.
You can sign up today for monthly giving online or by phone (705-743-5599).
Give a gift that will last a lifetime and beyond. Celebration gifts are a special way to celebrate a milestone such as a birthday, wedding, or graduation, to say thank you to someone special, or to honour someone in a meaningful way.
It is also a way to commemorate the life of a dear friend or family member while helping to create a lasting nature legacy. When you make a celebration gift, we will send a personalized card to your honouree or the family to acknowledge your thoughtfulness.
Make a meaningful impact with your cryptocurrency. Easily donate your Bitcoin or Ether to Kawartha Land Trust via CanadaHelps.org. Similar to non-crypto donations, you will receive a charitable tax receipt. A carbon credit will be purchased to ensure your cryptocurrency donation is carbon neutral.
Gifts from American Supporters
US taxpayers can support Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) with a gift that is tax-deductible in the United States.
Thanks to a partnership with American Friends of Canadian Conservation, US taxpayers can make a donation to the KLT and receive tax benefits in the United States.
Support Kawartha Land Trust via our partnership with American Friends:
- Donate online using your credit card at American Friends’ secure site. Make a one-time donation or set up a recurring gift.
- Donate stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares to American Friends. Avoid US capital gains taxes while receiving a tax deduction for the current value of your securities. Contact Sandra Tassel at 360-515-7171 or firstname.lastname@example.org for instructions.
- Mail a cheque in US funds along with a Grant Recommendation to request that American Friends use your donation to make a grant to the Kawartha Land Trust (the language in the Grant Recommendation is necessary for your gift to be tax deductible in the US). Mail to:
American Friends of Canadian Conservation
336 36th St, #717
Bellingham, WA 98225
Alternatively, if you do not require a tax receipt (for example if you are donating from a charitable fund) you can send your gift directly to Kawartha Land Trust. This is simple to do and ensures all of your support goes directly to land conservation in the Kawarthas.
US Taxpayers — Donating Land/Conservation Easements
If you are a US taxpayer who owns property in the Kawarthas, you can permanently protect your land through a donation or conservation easement and receive US tax benefits, through our partners at American Friends.
American Friends was created to remove the tax and legal barriers that prevented US taxpayers from permanently protecting their Canadian properties. You can find more details in this fact sheet created by American Friends.
Please contact John Kintare, Executive Director, at email@example.com to discuss your property, its conservation values, and your interests, and for more information about tax benefits and steps for making a “cross-border” conservation gift. We will help you through the process of making your gift in collaboration with our partners at American Friends.
US Taxpayers — Leaving a Gift in your Will
As a US taxpayer, you can also make a gift of land in your will, or a financial bequest to benefit Kawartha Land Trust (KLT). Most bequests can be made directly to the Trust and realize the same estate tax benefits as a gift to a US charity. For more complex estate planning tools, we can partner with American Friends to structure your gift. Please contact John Kintare, Executive Director, firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Gifts of Securities/Stock
The tax incentives are very attractive for gifting publicly traded securities. They include stocks, bonds and mutual funds containing stocks listed on approved stock exchanges. You are exempt from paying capital gains tax when you choose to donate to KLT with securities.
To make gift of securities please complete our Gift of Securities Form:
- Donating Appreciated Securities — BMO Wealth Management*
- Donating Securities To Charity — CIBC Wood Gundy*
*Please note KLT does not recommend a particular financial services provider. This information was provided to us by one of our donors and we thought the information is worth sharing. We recommend that you speak to a licensed advisor, accountant or lawyer if you have questions about your personal finance.
Leave a Gift in Your Will
