KLT Welcomes New Winter Students!

KLT Welcomes New Winter Students!
By Riley Weichel, Marketing Intern

As an organization that is very involved in the local community, Kawartha Land Trust continues to partner with local institutions, such as Trent University and Fleming College. We gained three new additions to our team this winter!

Read on to meet and learn about our new team members:

Riley Weichel, Marketing Assistant
Riley Weichel has just begun her internship as a Marketing Assistant at Kawartha Land Trust. She is very excited to be part of the team, and participate in the upcoming events. After graduating St. Peter’s Secondary School with honor roll, French immersion, and a 3-month exchange in Paris, France, she is now a third-year Business student at Trent University, specializing in Marketing. She aspires to both learn and contribute during her time with KLT. During the summertime, Riley loves to paddleboard with her Border collie; spend time at her cottage in Halliburton, and play beach volleyball. She says that she’s very excited and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of KLT and is looking forward to getting to know all the staff throughout the semester.

Griffin Williams, GIS Intern
Griffin Williams has been part of the KLT team since September. He is a big supporter of the work that KLT does, and says, “Being able to contribute to their mission is a very rewarding experience.” Griffin has completed his 4 years of undergraduate study at Trent University in the Bachelor of Environmental Science and Studies program. He is now in his first year of the Environmental and Life Sciences MSc program at Trent. At Kawartha Land Trust, Griffin spends his time using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to produce and update maps of properties in the Kawartha’s. Outside of school and work, Griffin enjoys playing sports, specifically volleyball. He is currently in his fifth season playing for the Trent University Varsity Men’s Volleyball team. Griffin says that he is looking forward to continuing to help KLT meet their goals and to forge new friendship with all of the staff and volunteers along the way.

Griffin Tinevez, Impact Leadership Student
Griffin Tinevez is a valuable member at KLT. Griffin has gained considerable experience working for KLT by applying his knowledge from the classroom to a real-world scenario. He spends his time at Kawartha Land Trust using a land securement decision criterion to evaluate and prioritize potential properties. His evaluations are made using GIS, existing documentation and ortho-photos. Griffin is currently a fourth-year student in the Environmental and Resource Studies program at Trent University. During his spare time, Griffin is heavily into yoga, attending several classes weekly. He also enjoys running and biking in the outdoors, as well as cooking. Griffin is very excited to present all of his results to the securement committee.

The enthusiasm and hard-work that these students show leaves a positive effect on the entire team at KLT. The partnerships with both Trent University and Fleming College have been very useful in the past and have provided us with very resourceful information that we will use for many years to come. We look forward to expanding this information with you, enhancing your learning outcomes and building relationships as we go. The Kawartha Land Trust team welcomes you all! We are all very excited to have you as part of our team.
