Two KLT Land Donors Recognized in Canada 150 Top Conservation Properties

As part of Canada’s 150th anniversary of confederation celebration in 2017, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) recognized Canadians who have set aside private lands for conservation.

Two of Kawartha Land Trust’s protected properties and their respective land donors, Big (Boyd/Chiminis) Island, Mike and Terry Wilson, and East Syndicate Island, the late Norman Cowan, were selected for special recognition for the habitat conservation efforts of these properties.

This initiative celebrates the exceptional habitat and biodiversity benefits of Big (Boyd/Chiminis) Island and East Syndicate Island. The 150 properties selected were protected and conserved forever in part with support of Government of Canada funding or tax incentives under the Natural Areas Conservation Program and the Ecological Gifts Program.

KLT has received a commemorative Canada 150 plaque that will be installed on each of the islands in 2018.
