(Volunteer)
At Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) our volunteers are the heart and soul of what we do.
KLT’s community of volunteers helps to ensure we advance our mission to care for lands entrusted to us and help protect land in the Kawarthas.
We feel fortunate to have a large, enthusiastic, and dedicated volunteer base with a range of talents to help KLT accomplish our land protection and stewardship goals, engage the wider community in support of our mission, and provide excellent governance and strategic oversight as board directors and trustees.
When you share your time and talents as a volunteer, you will have the chance to connect with other passionate individuals to achieve great things together!
As a KLT Volunteer, you’ll get access to exclusive perks including:
– Volunteer-only events like trainings, appreciation gatherings, and field days
– Hands-on experience in the conservation field
– Opportunities to learn from experienced staff and other passionate volunteers
– Flexibility to participate in ways that suit your interests and availability
– KLT swag including t-shirts, hats, and stickers
“Volunteering with KLT helps me get out and experience “wild” Ontario in a way I’d struggle to otherwise. There are so many interesting and unique places that the KLT enables me to access; and the fact that I get to go visit them AND make a positive impact is pretty cool.” – Ben Stark, KLT Volunteer
“Volunteer involvement builds KLT’s capacity as we continue to grow. Providing a variety of skills, experiences, and diversity of perspectives that only strengthen the organization and what we can achieve together.” – Chris Ferguson, KLT’s previous Volunteer Programs Specialist
“[As a volunteer Lead Property Steward], I gained a unique appreciation for the seasonal changes that occur in these natural areas and the diverse species that live there. The devastating impacts that drought, storms, insects, diseases, and invasive species can have on our natural areas also became apparent…As a volunteer, you can, fortunately, learn about and apply new management approaches to help reduce these impacts.”
– Evan Thomas, KLT Legacy Volunteer
“I work closely with volunteers to conduct ecological inventories and monitoring, as well as desktop research and mapping. Volunteers are deeply connected to this region and because of their tireless support and enthusiasm, we are gaining a clearer understanding of our landscape and how we can better steward it into the future.” – Sam Clapperton, KLT Land Research Coordinator
Various exciting volunteer opportunities are available with Kawartha Land Trust in land stewardship, land securement, communications, development and office administration. Whatever your skills and interests, we could use your help!

PROTECT THE LAND YOU LOVE
Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) welcomes expressions of interest from individuals who wish to join our team of Trustees.
KLT’s Trustees are the members of our organization. They protect our mission, and, among other things, elect the Board of Directors and act as ambassadors and champions for KLT in the community.
Trustees are elected at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June each year and serve three-year terms. Directors for our Board are elected from the body of Trustees at the AGM. More information on the expectations of Trustees can be found here.
Complementing the make-up of the current body of Trustees, we will seek individuals whose interests align with our mission and with skills and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
At present, we are specifically recruiting Trustees with skills in one or more of the following areas:
If this opportunity interests you, please email us at volunteer@kawarthalandtrust.
Expressions of interest will be reviewed quarterly by our Governance and Nominating Committee. Individuals whose backgrounds appear to be a good complement to our current body of Trustees will be contacted at that time to arrange an opportunity to discuss our mutual interests.
KLT values diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all qualified applicants. Accommodations for applicants with disabilities are available upon request for all aspects of the recruitment process. Please note, however, that at this time, KLT offices are not wheelchair accessible.
