Here and there are pockets of old-growth forest that were missed by the cross-cut saws and axes of local lumbermen. Join KLT & Ancient Forest Exploration & Research to learn what makes an old-growth forest unique and how you can collect data on old-growth trees and forests in your own backyard.

Meet the Guide!

Carling Dewar, M.Env.Sc.
Carling earned her Master of Environmental Science degree at the University of Toronto and has been involved in a variety of conservation initiatives, from flying squirrel research in Haliburton Forest, to species at risk policy implementation in Ontario and across the country. She continues to support these initiatives through volunteer work with the Kawartha Wildlife Centre and her new position withAncient Forest Exploration & Research as a Forest Ecologist & Outreach Coordinator. Outside of the office, Carling enjoys visiting the many parks and lakes in the area and dreams of someday visiting old-growth forests on the west coast.
